The beach is memory on multiple timescales. Shell fossils are a record of a distant time, while footprints last only hours. I wanted to simplify and condense all of those layers of time the way a beach does. Humans record time with words, so this work is a union of the natural and the formal. Words from Emily Dickinson, discussing life, death, and eternity, wrap the organic in layers of poetic thought.
